Just a quick post to let anyone who's interested know about a one night only art show that's happening in March in Cardiff. It's being organised by the good people behind Kooki two bit, who have rounded up a bunch of Cardiff based artists, including some DV names, for what looks like will be a pretty awesome one-off night of art, drink and general good things. check out the facebutt page for more info....

This Weekend, Milgi Lounge on city road in Cardiff is hosting a special Designer Violence show, featuring some of the best work we've had in the zine over the last 2 years. It's opening from Thursday night with a short film screening from local director Ryan Andrews and on Saturday night there's a live art party with Godmachine, tom hovey and guests creating the artwork. Anyone who was at our last show in August will know what to expect, check the facebook event page for more info!

...does exactly what it says on the tin. A great article on a great blog. This is getting more relevent especially to the CAC crew as we gear up to do more and more things this year- so join us in our research and discovery:

"Like many artists, you may be tired of waiting for a gallery to sweep
you off your feet. You’ve sent your slide packets, you’ve written
artist your statements, and you’ve received only discouraging silence
in return.
At this point, like many artists, you decide to grab fate by the
balls. Why wait for a gallery to notice you when there’s wall space
in the local café or club, practically begging to be filled.
So, with courage and a portfolio, you approach the proprietor. And,
unlike those galleries, he’s overjoyed. Of course you can have a show!
You go home, head buzzing with visions of selling your artwork, and
telling that gallery to go jump in a lake.
But why is it that for all their promise, shows in non-traditional
venues so often end in failure?...."

Here is DV Cpt Ed Violence. We went to see the 2nd years end of year show at UWIC for the Graphic Communication course. On the way back we spotted this in the thicket. All I remember is cheering when the head of the year was telling us a driver 'shot up fast behind her'.

Hey Guys & Gals,

We are fast approaching the deadline for issue 7!
For this issue we are looking for your most shocking, sick and smutty work!
The dictionary defines smut as - Any form of media that is considered profane or offensive. Particularly with regards to sexual content.

Very sad to hear the news that Cardiff's most well known and most excellent free mag is no longer with us. Long live Kruger.

"Hello.

It's with heavy hearts and empty pockets that we announce that Kruger Magazine is dead, and will no longer be produced. The magazine may have been brilliant, but our business model was rubbish, so without any sign of long- or short-term financial improvement, we are unable to continue bearing the burden.

It's been six and a half years since we first launched the magazine, and in that time it's changed beyond recognition into one of the best written, most beautifully designed and lovingly crafted magazines in the UK, and that's all down to the people who have helped us by giving up their time and lending their talent as much as they could along the way.

We'd like to thank everyone who supported us at the beginning, helped us struggle on to the end, and especially the people who saw the whole thing through with us. It was awesome fun.

Kruger as a business is not dead, so keep in touch to find out about our new ideas and projects. In the meantime we'll be re-launching our website as an archive and tribute to everything we achieved with Kruger magazine, so come and say hello.

Thanks again to everyone who made it all possible. The fact we kept on going for so long is a testament to what you can do when enough people believe in the same thing.

Designer Violence are taking over the front windows of Milgis on City road this Sunday for the Big fuss Festival. Expect CAC artists going mental with pens. We'll be there from 3pm until late. See you there!

Life Drawing classes!

"The yurt at Milgi Lounge is a lovely environment to be in while sketching.

Tonight we are running a drop in life drawing session with two models, Matt and Sally.

These sessions will run until the end of June and then we will close for the summer and re-start the sessions in September. That gives us ten drop in life model sessions planned.

Do come along and bring a friend - Entry is free but we do expect a donation for the models time of about £5pp

Art materials are available, paper, pencils, charcoal, putty rubber, for £0.50p

All attending will get a voucher that they can use at Inkspot in Splott. It's a 10% discount off art supplies.
